Sometimes they come back…….

There are a few things in life I don’t understand - for instance people that wear their pajamas to the shops. Then there are things that really make my mind boggle and one of those are colleagues who will leave a company and brag how wonderful their new job/company/boss/colleagues/benefits (tick as applicable) will be. They will look all smug after the staff announcement is sent out and on their last day when they get their farewell gift and card, they will give their speech to all with a happy look pasted on their faces. We all have the decency to look sad that they are leaving and off they go.
And then they come back and they don’t even have the decency to look shamefaced that they couldn’t make a go of their fabulous new position. Quite frankly, what they are saying to us is this: “I’m a self-important know-it-all who thought the grass was greener but found I actually prefer to be back here with the people I spent a full calendar month bragging to before I left so……. taa daaaaa I’m back.” Happy expression in place while they expect to be welcomed back with open arms. They never look sad before they leave – oh no – I had to hear how excited said ex-now-present colleague was to be leaving and how she was so looking forward to going to her new job and….something……something else… (I admit I tuned out after a while). Yet today she is back in all her smugness as if she simply took a very long sabbatical before returning the familiar warmth of her old job. The way she is walking around is as if she has done the company a favour instead of it being the other way around.
I admit we are very spoilt at our office. I have never been treated so well by management or any boss I’ve ever had before I joined this company. On the whole there are some really nice colleagues that I enjoy chatting to and I feel like the company actually cares for staff. HR is always around ready to listen to anything we have to say. I just wish they would employ a zero returns policy. I mean you wouldn’t return something to a supermarket 2 years later why return yourself to an office you chose to leave?
Is it just me or do others feel the same way?
